Gender and Culture Matters: Considerations for Menstrual Hygiene Management

Abstract Menstruation hygiene management (MHM) is an important factor in gender-sensitive sanitation promotion. MHM a concept and approach international development that gained greater attention the last decade. This chapter first reviews of (also recently referred to as menstrual health hygiene: MHH) agenda. The second part focuses on cultural aspects menstruation. To illuminate local reality context female students secondary school, case study from Manafwa district Uganda will be described. research results show seemingly simple behaviors associated with pass through filter norms girls’ perceptions. Those include (1) changing absorbents, (2) using latrine, (3) discarding used sanitary pads or other items, (4) washing items underwear, (5) drying them. provide some recommendations for interventions.
